Kumamoto Castle, begun in 1601 and completed in 1607, was a fortified castle built by Kato Kiyomasa, a close vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, after he was appointed lord of the Kumamoto Domain. Along with Nagoya Castle and Himeji Castle, Kumamoto Castle is considered one of Japan's three most famous castles. Numerous ginkgo trees line the grounds, earning it the nickname "Ginkgo Castle." At its time, Kumamoto Castle was impressive in its scale, boasting a circumference of 9 kilometers and an area of approximately 980,000 square meters. It featured three sturdy keep towers, 49 turrets, 18 gate towers, and 29 gates, showcasing its majestic grandeur.

Kumamon Plaza: This is the home of Kumamon, Kumamoto Prefecture's ambassador. He serves as both the prefecture's sales director and happiness director, and serves as a central hub for his activities both domestically and internationally. The plaza also serves as a vital platform for promoting Kumamoto Prefecture's tourism and local products. Visitors can find the world's only "Kumamon Sales Director's Office" and purchase unique souvenirs available only here. When Kumamon is present, visitors have the opportunity to interact with him and even enjoy a performance.

Aso Nakadake Crater: Mount Aso is one of the world's few active volcanoes, home to the Aso Caldera, the world's largest lava crater. Over the past 300,000 years, Mount Aso has experienced four major eruptions, forming the present-day caldera. The craters are numerous, both old and new, and of varying sizes. Combined with the expansive plateau and breathtaking mountain scenery, Aso Nakadake Crater is one of Japan's most popular mountaineering destinations.

Kurokawa Onsen, located in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is a scenic hot spring destination boasting 30 uniquely styled ryokans. Surrounded by verdant mountains, Kurokawa Onsen offers a series of open-air baths, allowing you to soak in the changing natural beauty of the seasons and the unique springtime hot springs. Enjoy a relaxing soak while appreciating the scenery!

Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine: This shrine served as the inspiration for the popular manga "Firefly Forest," where the heroine first encounters the mysterious creature Gin. Recently, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists in the Aso region.

Suizenji Joju-en Garden: Kumamoto City boasts a renowned garden, Suizenji Joju-en Garden (commonly known as Suizenji Park). Located on the grounds of Izumizu Shrine, dedicated to successive generations of the Hosokawa clan, the garden is a classic Momoyama-style pond and spring garden, dating back approximately 360 years. Clear springs flow, and carp swim leisurely within, adding to the garden's vibrant atmosphere. Suizenji Joju-en Garden's origins lie in the Suizenji Teahouse, built in 1636 (Kan'ei 13) by Hosokawa Tadatoshi, the first lord of the Kumamoto Domain, for entertaining guests. Subsequently, during the reign of the third lord, Hosokawa Tsunayoshi, new springs and mountain formations were added to the garden, transforming it into the garden we see today.

Yufuin Town: Located near Yufuin Onsen, Yunotsubo Kaido leads to Kinrin Lake, offering stunning lakeside scenery and unique architecture. Stroll through the town, reminiscent of a European fairytale, where small stone shops stand, and on clear days, the mountains stretch out in the distance. Modeled after the English village of Cosworth, the town primarily sells Japanese anime merchandise. While the area is small, strolling and shopping in the cool winter weather offers a unique and relaxing experience.

Kikuchi Valley, nestled in the corner of Aso-Kuju National Park, is a roughly 4-kilometer-long valley formed by groundwater from the Aso Outer Mountains. Known as the Kikuchi Water Source, it has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Waters. Even in the sweltering summer heat, the Kikuchi spring maintains a cool 13°C, making it an ideal spot to escape the heat. In autumn, the valley is ablaze with autumn leaves, creating a truly breathtaking spectacle.

Kyushu Zoo is one of Japan's largest wildlife parks, home to 1,400 animals from over 70 species. The park features a 6-kilometer-long wildlife observation path, known as the "Large Animal Zone," where visitors can choose to drive or take the park's "Jungle Bus" for up-close viewing of the animals. There's also a "Small Animal Interaction Zone" where visitors can touch and interact with the animals.

Aso Kadori Animal Park: This unique theme park features bears and a variety of other animals from around the world. Located in Kyushu, this park offers a unique experience: you can cuddle bears and interact with dogs, cats, alpacas, capybaras, and other animals from around the world. The interactive area is a favorite among visitors. You'll also have the opportunity to enjoy a fascinating interactive performance by Coach Miyazawa and the chimpanzee "Pudding," as well as other animal performances by world-class animal trainers.
