See where famous movies like "The Beach" were filmed. Admire another main attraction of Phi Phi: Pileh Lagoon with its stunning turquoise waters.

Next, we’ll visit Viking Cave. While boats can’t enter, we’ll pause nearby so you can snap some great photos while our guide shares the fascinating history behind this mysterious spot. Dive into a stunning underwater paradise to snorkel among vibrant coral reefs and tropical fish. Once you've explored the sea, we’ll head to Phi Phi Don for a well-deserved break. You can refuel there with a delicious buffet lunch featuring a wide variety of fresh options to suit every appetite.

After lunch, see crab-eating macaque monkeys in their natural habitat at Monkey Bay. The last stop is one of the most beautiful ones. Discover the white sand beaches and azure waters on a visit to Bamboo Island, a tiny island with a pristine beach where you can swim and enjoy the beauty of paradise in peace.

Finally, we will head back to Koh Lanta, where a transfer will be waiting for you to take you back to your accommodation around 4.30 PM to conclude the tour with a day full of great memories.

FAQ

1. Where is Maya Bay located in Thailand?

Maya Bay is a stunning bay on Ko Phi Phi Leh island, part of Thailand's Phi Phi Islands archipelago in the Andaman Sea. It is situated southwest of Koh Lanta, making it a popular day trip destination for island-hopping tours.

2. What makes Maya Bay famous for visitors?

Maya Bay rose to global fame as the primary filming location for the 2000 movie 'The Beach,' starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Its breathtaking beauty, characterized by towering limestone cliffs, pristine white sand, and crystal-clear turquoise waters, attracts visitors seeking iconic natural landscapes.

3. Is Maya Bay currently open for visitors, and what are the visiting rules?

Yes, Maya Bay has reopened to visitors after a period of closure for environmental recovery. Strict rules are in place to protect its ecosystem, including designated walkways, a ban on swimming from the main beach, and specific boat docking areas away from the shore.

4. Are there swimming restrictions at Maya Bay, and where can snorkeling be done during a tour?

Yes, swimming in Maya Bay itself is prohibited to protect the recovering coral reefs and marine life. However, speedboat tours often include opportunities for snorkeling in designated 'underwater paradise' locations nearby, such as around the Phi Phi Islands or at Pileh Lagoon, where colorful fish and corals can be observed.

5. What is the typical transportation method to reach Maya Bay from Koh Lanta?

The most common and efficient transportation method to reach Maya Bay from Koh Lanta is by speedboat. Speedboat tours offer a quick journey, allowing visitors to experience multiple highlights of the Phi Phi Islands, including Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon, within a single day trip.

6. What conservation measures are in place to protect Maya Bay's ecosystem?

Extensive conservation measures have been implemented following its temporary closure. These include limiting daily visitor numbers, mandating boats to dock at designated piers outside the bay, prohibiting swimming in the bay, and developing boardwalks to guide visitors and prevent disturbance to the natural environment, aiding coral and marine life recovery.

7. What are the main differences between traveling to Maya Bay by speedboat versus a ferry?

Traveling by speedboat to Maya Bay offers significantly faster transit times and typically allows for a more flexible, multi-stop itinerary, visiting several points of interest like Pileh Lagoon in a single day. Ferries are generally slower, larger, and offer direct transportation between major islands, often without the same extensive island-hopping tour experience.

8. What can visitors experience at Pileh Lagoon during a Maya Bay speedboat tour?

During a speedboat tour, visitors to Pileh Lagoon can marvel at its stunning emerald-green waters surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. It's an excellent spot for swimming and photography, often described as a natural swimming pool. Many tours include a stop here for guests to enjoy the tranquil beauty and capture memorable pictures.
