Experience the oldest traditional fishing method (Baodun), an achievement of Penghu people in utilizing the intertidal zone for fishing. "Dun" refers to a pile of stones on a reef shelter to collect fish, also known as "fish shelter," essentially a smaller version of a stone weir. Taking advantage of the need for hiding among bottom-dwelling fish, open stone piles (stone houses) are built in the intertidal zone. At high tide, the fish swim into the mounds; at low tide, fishermen dismantle the mounds and use nets to catch the fish inside. This is called Baodun. They are mostly constructed using locally sourced stones from the seashore. Each mound consists of dozens of stones, and at harvest time, each stone is removed to catch the fish inside with nets.
