Mount Tate

There is a mountaineering path leading up to the summit of Mt. Tateyama (Mt. Oyama) from Murodo Terminal. The ascent takes about 2 hours while the descent takes about an hour and 40 minutes.

Mt. Tateyama is one of Japan's most active volcanoes. The landscape traces its origins to volcanic activity, such as Mikurigaike Pond, which used to be a crater, and Jigokudani valley, which still produces gas today.

To reach Mount Tate, you can take a train from Dentetsu-Toyama station to Tateyama Station, followed by a cable car to Bijodaira, a bus to Murodō, and finally a hike to Mount Tateyama.

The high point of Mt. Tateyama overlooking the valley of hell came to represent heaven. People who climbed Mt. Tateyama during their life hoped that their souls would go to heaven after their death.

Mount Tate offers stunning natural beauty, including Mikurigaike Pond, a former volcanic crater, and Jigokudani valley, known for its active gas vents. The panoramic views from the summit are breathtaking.
