The $174 purchase included three redemptions – an absolute steal! You'd break even on just one! My main destination was Hofu. In the morning, I went to the Hofu Tourist Information Center to exchange for a temple visit pass, rent an electric bicycle, and get a ¥1000 Tenmanya shopping voucher. The staff at the information center were friendly and helpful, and we could communicate in English. After picking up the bike, my first stop was Hofu Tenmangu Shrine to pray, write my goshuin (temple stamp), and draw a fortune slip. Although it was hot, the shrine's architecture was beautiful, and entering immediately lifted my spirits. After writing my goshuin, the shrine maiden said that subscribing to Hofu Tenmangu's YouTube channel would get me a free folder – awesome! 👍 However, it got really hot as noon approached. Luckily, I used my temple visit pass to go to the nearby Hoshoan teahouse to enjoy the air conditioning, matcha, and tea snacks – so refreshing! For lunch, I exchanged a ¥1500 cash voucher at the nearby visitor center, ume-terrace. It was valid at the attached restaurant, saving me a meal. The food was delicious, and the drinks were self-service with a variety of choices. You could also ask the staff for refills of rice and miso soup. In the afternoon, I continued my ride to Suo Kokubun-ji Temple and the Mori Clan Garden for worship/viewing. Admission was free since I used a viewing ticket. I had originally planned to visit Amida-ji Temple, but the weather was too hot, and I was worried about getting heatstroke, so I gave up. However, the viewing ticket is valid for one year, so I hope I can return to Suofu soon to visit Amida-ji Temple.
