Product Info

Start your day with a serene sunrise at Vermilion Lakes, a 5-minute drive from Banff town. This tranquil spot, less crowded than Lake Louise, offers stunning reflections of Mount Rundle in the calm morning light, enhanced by September’s fall colours.

Next, drive 5 minutes to the Fenland Trailhead for a peaceful 2-km loop through a boreal forest along Echo Creek. This easy, 45-minute walk winds through wetlands with chances to spot deer or beavers, offering a quiet escape from busier trails. Ideal for a morning stretch, the trail immerses you in Banff’s natural beauty.

Then, take a 5-minute drive to Cave and Basin, the birthplace of Canada’s national park system. Spend an hour exploring the restored 1914 bathhouse, Indigenous cultural exhibits, and a boardwalk to warm thermal springs and an emerald-green basin. The underground cave adds a historical touch.

Drive 15 minutes to Lake Minnewanka, a turquoise gem framed by rugged peaks, offering a less hectic alternative to Lake Louise. Walk the 1-hour round-trip lakeshore trail to Stewart Canyon, crossing a scenic bridge with Cascade Range views.

Afterward, drive 10 minutes to Bow Falls, a short walk from Banff town, where the Bow River cascades in a wide, frothy display, perfect for a quick 30-minute stop. Then, head to nearby Surprise Corner Viewpoint (5-minute drive) for a stunning perspective of the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel framed by Sulphur Mountain. Spend 30 minutes snapping photos and enjoying the dramatic fall landscape.

Drive 25 minutes to Johnston Canyon, a shaded trail along a catwalk through a limestone gorge. The 2.4-km round-trip to the Lower Falls takes about 1 hour, offering misty views of the cascading waterfall and rocks. This moderately easy trail is less crowded in the early afternoon.

Drive 15 minutes to the Upper Hot Springs parking lot, then hike the 1-km Upper Hot Springs Trail (30-45 minutes, moderately steep) to the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station, a National Historic Site. Explore the boardwalk for 360-degree views of Banff’s peaks as the sun sets around 6:30 PM. Bring a headlamp for the descent or relax in the Banff Upper Hot Springs afterward.

Drive 15 minutes to Two Jack Lake, a quieter companion to Lake Minnewanka, offering serene waters and Mount Rundle views. Spend 45 minutes walking the short lakeside trail (1-2 km) to enjoy the evening light and fall foliage. This peaceful spot is perfect for reflection or photography, with fewer visitors than other lakes.

Return to Banff town (10-minute drive) for a 1-hour evening stroll along Banff Avenue, where twinkling lights and mountain backdrops create a charming ambiance. Visit Cascade Gardens behind the Parks Canada Administration Building for a quiet walk among manicured flowerbeds and stone pathways, showcasing Banff’s historic charm. Pop into local shops like Canada House Gallery if time allows.

End your day with a 10-minute drive to the Mount Norquay Lookout, a lesser-known spot for stargazing.
