The museum presents over a thousand exhibits, both large and small, inviting you to explore the surprising similarities between yourself and other creatures and flora. Exhibition: Tanja: Up Close

Be sure not to miss the exhibition 'Tanja: Up Close'. In 2009, Tanja the hippopotamus - a beloved icon of ARTIS, passed away. Until 10 May 2026, you can see Tanja preserved and on display. This exhibition delves into the complex relationships between humans and animals, placing Tanja, Amsterdam's most celebrated hippopotamus, at its heart.
