Product Info

The history of Barcelona during World War II is relatively unknown, so it is even more worth exploring when in the city. Join our Expert Guide on this walking tour to learn about the secret spies and Nazi agents who operated in Barcelona during the war. Discover the places, events and personalities that have shaped the course of World War II.

Book this 2-hour private tour to explore the historic center of Barcelona with an experienced Local Guide who is passionate about modern history, from World War I, through the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939, to World War II and its aftermath. The tour will cover the historic sites that were attacked during the Bombing of Barcelona as well as secret locations where members of the Spanish Resistance organized against the Nazis who sought to expand their area of influence into the Mediterranean territories.

Places of interest include the Teatro Tivoli, the site of the mysterious death of Carmen Brotu Juan Martninez Penas. You will also see the former Ritz Hotel, where a leading member of the Nazi Party, Heinrich Himmler, stayed. In Urquinaona, you will discover a hive of Barcelona’s spies and learn about their secret operations. You will hear the true story of Juan Pujol Garcia, a double spy who was instrumental in the success of Operation Fortitude on D-Day. You will pass Via Fontanella, where many allies lived and conspired with ""Le Resistance"", and the ornate Palau de la Música Catalana, which served as an exclusive venue for the Nazis. The tour will end next to Barcelona Cathedral in Sant Felip Neri Square, where you can still see the damage caused by the bombs that killed dozens in the Spanish Civil War.
