Product Info

Nine to ten hours. Six passengers maximum. Just one group per day. One real 4x4.

Visit the Hidden Rainbow Mountains, explore 6th-century cliff monasteries, and stand in Georgia’s oldest desert monastery. This is an off-road adventure that ends with a village lunch in the middle of nowhere.

Real Rainbow Mountains first. We take our 4x4 off-road to Lake Mravaltskaro. A short walk reveals hills in colors that don't look real — red, yellow, green, and white, layered by millions of years of geology. No bus parks. No queues. Just you, the wind, and one of Georgia's top birdwatching sites. Bring a proper camera.

The Desert Monasteries.
First, St. John the Baptist — a 6th-century complex carved into a cliff face. You will find original frescoes on the walls and monastic cells cut into the rock. It is a place of genuine silence that resets something in you.

Next is David Gareja Lavra, Georgia’s oldest desert monastery. This is the real thing, still standing after 1,500 years. We walk it slowly to soak in the history.

Lunch in Udabno.
Not included, but worth every lari. We stop at a family-run spot in a remote village surrounded by salt lakes and almond orchards. Real Georgian food, no tourist menus. Budget 20–35 GEL, please bring cash.

Wine Tasting (Private Groups Only).
Optional traditional Kakhetian wines to end the day. You can add this when you reserve your private tour.

The Practical Stuff:
• When: Runs year-round. Spring for wildflowers, summer for heat (we start early), autumn for amber landscapes, and winter to have the desert entirely to yourself.
• Gear: Wear solid shoes. The terrain is rocky and uneven. Bright colors photograph beautifully against the desert backdrop.
• The Vibe: No paved paths. No filters. No crowds. Just Eastern Georgia doing what it does best.

FAQ:
• Is the hike difficult? It is rocky with some uphill sections. Nothing technical, but it can be slippery after rain.
• What to wear? Comfortable layers and sturdy sneakers or boots.
• Lunch options? Family guesthouse in Udabno. Bread, cheese, salads, and stews. Vegetarian options are always available.
• The Vehicle: We use a real 4x4 Mitsubishi Delica. These routes are inaccessible to standard tour vehicles.
