Science and Technology has collaborated with artist Professor Xu Wenrong to digitally translate and remake the artist's giant ink painting "Taiwan Scenery", which took him four years to complete, to showcase Taiwan's natural scenery and traditional festivals, creating an immersive experience that is rich in cultural and artistic cultivation and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

"Taiwan Scenery" is a huge ink painting scroll completed by Professor Xu Wenrong, a painter born in Changhua, Taiwan, which took four years (1992-1996) to complete. It is 320 meters long and 1.8 meters high, making it the world's longest Chinese ink painting. The painting depicts Taiwan's natural mountains and rivers, folk customs and cultural construction, and is hailed as the modern Taiwanese version of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival." Science and Technology and artist Xu Wenrong have worked together to digitally translate and remake the "Taiwan Scenery Map" to showcase Taiwan's natural scenery and traditional festivals, creating an immersive experience rich in cultural and artistic cultivation that the whole family can enjoy.

The exhibition is divided into three main themes

  • The first part of the film scans and remakes the "Taiwan Scenery Map" into high-resolution digital files, translating them into a majestic immersive video script. After re-editing the ambient music and natural sound effects, it uses 3D animation combined with special effects VFX and interactive technology to synthesize a new digital image, transforming the static landscape painting into a dynamic and projected splicing, presenting a new visual of the magnificent natural and cultural features of Taiwan.
  • The second part, Ink Rhythm from the Heart, symbolizes freehand brushstrokes and the natural flow of ink, which gives the composition infinite tension. This work originated from Xu Wenrong's profound understanding of the importance of local culture when he lived abroad. After returning to Taiwan, he spent four years visiting mountains, rivers and humanities, and faithfully recorded the diverse features of Taiwan with his brush. The painting not only shows the alternation of dawn and dusk and the transition of the four seasons, but also gives the picture a sense of fluidity. Using immersive technology and interactive projection technology, including 3D modeling, floor animation, particle special effects and other animation design technologies, combined with surround sound design, this magnificent ink scroll is transformed into a situational experience, allowing the audience to experience the six major Taiwanese landmarks depicted in "Taiwan Scenery": Sandiaojiao Lighthouse, the Presidential Office Building of the Republic of China, Yangmingshan Qingtiangang, the National Palace Museum, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Dadaocheng Dihua Street. At the end of the exhibition, a bird's-eye view map was used to connect the six major landmarks, projecting the cultural memory of Taiwan's landscape and echoing the historical implications of "Taiwan Scenery Map".
  • "Part Three" XR walking tour, put on Meta Quest 3 VR glasses, transform into a traveler to tour the sparkling Sun Moon Lake, feel the lake as clear as a mirror, stand in front of Shifen Waterfall, feel the thunderous momentum, take a mine car, cross the misty mountains, arrive at Jiufen Mountain City, stroll along the quaint streets, and feel the flow of time and the precipitation of years. XR technology allows the audience to immerse themselves in the scene! The 360° panoramic view combined with high-definition images delicately presents the natural and cultural beauty of Taiwan. Interactive experience, free exploration, feel different scenery and stories, and experience Taiwan’s history, culture and the charm of time with knowledgeable influencers and professional tour guides. Well-known actor Tu Shancun and stage actor Liao Yuanqing were specially invited to perform across borders. This time, Tu Shancun used digital scanning 3D modeling to create digital 3D images. This is also the first cross-border cooperation experience in his acting career, which is quite rare.

The immersive image production of this exhibition is undertaken by the art animation special effects team of "Light Spot Lucky Tree", and the interactive special effects production is undertaken by the interactive image team of "Leap New Media". By scanning and reshooting the "Taiwan Scenery Map" into high-resolution digital files, it is translated into a magnificent immersive image script. After re-editing the ambient music and natural sound effects, 3D animation is combined with special effects VFX and interactive technology to synthesize a new digital image, converting the static landscape painting into dynamic and projected splicing, presenting a new visual of the magnificent natural and cultural features of Taiwan.

Combining fully immersive projection, contemporary ink animation and XR interactive experience trilogy, the beauty of Taiwan is deeply explored through the interweaving of light and shadow. It is a cultural journey across time and space, taking you through Taiwan’s magnificent scenery and cultural memories, and feeling the freehand shock of the fusion of technology and art! "
