Lieyu Township

Legend has it that Lieyu Island and Kinmen were originally connected. In the late Song Dynasty, Emperor Bing, fleeing from Yuan soldiers, was in danger at sea near Kinmen. A mountain collapsed and the earth split, separating Lieyu from Kinmen and giving Emperor Bing a chance to survive. Thus, the island was bestowed the name 'Lieyu'.

As Lieyu Township is located on the front line of the military, it possesses abundant military historical sites. At the same time, the unique environment of the offshore island has created rich natural geology and wild bird landscapes, and many traditional Minnan buildings and overseas Chinese hometown culture have been preserved. Major attractions include Jiugong Tunnel, Luocuo Mazu Park, Victory Gate, August 23rd Artillery Battle Victory Monument, Lieyu Three Forts (Yongshi Fort, Tiehan Fort, Jiangjun Fort), Landmine Theme Park, etc.

Lieyu Township is divided into five administrative villages: Linhu Village, Shangqi Village, Shanglin Village, Xikou Village, and Huangpu Village. In addition, there are twenty-six natural villages: Xilu, Xizhai, Donglin, Huxia, Luocuo, Qingqi, Shangku, Yangcuo, Shanglin, Zhongdun, Nantang, Houjing, Qianpu, Hujingtou, Dongkeng, Shuangkou, Xitian, Xiwu, Xifang, Houzhai, Huangcuo, Putou, Anding, Anxia, Houtou, Linbian.

The main way to get to Lieyu Township is by taking the public buses operated by the Kinmen County Public Transportation Management Office. Travelers can drive their own vehicles across the bridge. Please note that due to typhoons, fog seasons, or strong winds, schedules may be subject to change or cancellations. It is recommended to reconfirm your itinerary with the transportation provider before departure.

As the front line of the military, Lieyu Township preserves many precious military historical sites. Among them, the Lieyu Three Forts (Yongshi Fort, Tiehan Fort, and Jiangjun Fort) are must-visit locations where you can gain a deep understanding of the military facilities and history of that time. In addition, Victory Gate and the August 23rd Artillery Battle Victory Monument are also important historical witnesses.
