The township is situated on the Hengchun Peninsula, at the end of the Central Mountain Range. The township has a unique, long and narrow terrain, extending about 30 kilometers north to south but only about 100 meters wide east to west, with mostly coastal cliffs. Its total area is approximately 17 square kilometers, with a population of about 5,770. It is the least populated plain township in Taiwan. The climate is tropical monsoon.
